Dragon Boat Festival Holiday Notice

Origin: The festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet and minister in ancient China who drowned himself in the Miluo River as a form of protest against corruption.

During the Dragon Boat Festival we eat rice zongzi and row dragon boats, The festival is marked by dragon(loong) boat races, where ornately decorated boats are rowed to the beat of drums to symbolize the search for Qu Yuan's body and as a way to ward off evil spirits.

Zongzi: These pyramid-shaped dumplings are believed to ward off evil spirits and disease when eaten during the festival.
